Migraine Research, Advanced Imaging and Atlas Orthogonal Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care

If you are a migraine sufferer, you know it severely impacts every aspect of your life.  Did you know that a large percentage of chronic migraine sufferers are also likely to have a stroke?

Currently, migraines are treated with pain medication, anti-depressants and and Botox injections.  These methods may provide some much-needed relief, but only temporarily – because they don’t address the root cause of the problem.

Research conducted by the medical and chiropractic communities are discovering what may be one of the main causes for chronic migraines.  Dr. Scott Rosa, an Atlas Orthogonal Upper Cervical Chiropractic specialist has been working with and conducting studies with Dr. Raymond Damadian, a medical doctor and inventor of the MRI.  They are using an upright MRI and looking at Cerebral Spinal Fluid (CSF) that is created in the brain then pumped down the spinal cord and back to the brain.

Dr. Rosa’s studies are showing that when someone has experienced head or neck traumas such as a concussion or whiplash, the top vertebra of the spine known as C1 or the Atlas is pushed out of alignment.  When this happens, CSF carrying essential nutrients to the central nervous system is not able to move from the brain and down the spinal cord effectively, adversely affecting brain and spinal health.

Dr. Rosa and Dr. Damadian have provided studies and MRI images showing how misalignment of the cervical neck impedes CSF and blood flow to and from the brain, resulting in migraine headaches.  The Doctors have also shown with images that adjusting the Atlas restores proper CSF and blood flow.

These are amazing findings!

Head and neck trauma can happen at birth, on the playground or football field, in car or bike accidents, from sports injuries, falls or just about any type of accident.   When trauma occurs, the top bone of the spine – the Atlas, the most moveable and delicate vertebra in the spine – is often impacted.

Migraines can be effectively treated by adjusting the Atlas.   Atlas Orthogonal upper cervical specialists use imaging to determine specific and precise measurements to adjust.  The adjustments are very gentle—no popping or twisting of the neck.
